Rust repair was performed at the quarter panels and rear wheel arches using new metal. Side markers and signal lamps were shaved, the fender-mounted antenna was eliminated, and the seams between the quarter and rear panels were filled. A sealer/primer was applied, hand-sanded, and coated in Ford Amber Gold metallic paint. Occasional chips and other flaws are shown in the gallery below along with a small amount of bubbling on the left headlamp cover.
The original amber parking lamps were converted to clear units and now also function as turn signals. The front and rear bumpers were rechromed, and the Opel “Blitz” emblem was moved from the top of the hood to the grille. Black and polished 15? ROTA RB-X wheels wear 205/50 General Exclaim UHP tires with approximately 1600 miles.
The original medium brown interior was redyed in beige with black accents. Carpeting was replaced and a new headliner was installed. The dash is said to show minor cracking at the ends of the defroster vents, and the original steering wheel is reported to have a couple of hairline cracks. A small separation is noted in one of the driver’s seat seams. The interior courtesy lamp can only be turned on or off manually.
An aftermarket Alpine sound system has replaced the original. Approximately 76k miles are shown on the 5-digit odometer, 1600 of which have been added by the seller.
The 1.9-liter four was an optional upgrade in 1973, and it was not reconditioned as part of the 2008 work. The Solex carburetor was replaced with a Weber unit in 2012 and the water pump, fuel pump, alternator, and clutch were also renewed along with installation of a Petronix electronic ignition and high-torque starter. Stock wiring was replaced with high-flex wire where the headlamps rotate, and a relay was added to the starter circuit to minimize load on the ignition switch. A new battery mount was also installed.
The braking system received a new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, calipers, flexible lines, and silicone fluid. Small dents are pointed out on each side of the belly pan.
