The van received a complete bare metal restoration that took over 2-years to complete in 2013, performed by a well respected VW specialist. Van had an incredibly small amount of rust and very little metal work was required during the restoration. It was resprayed its original Dove Blue color in 2013 which really pops .
The decal seen on each side of the Van is a local San Clemente Restaurant called “Jacks Funky Chicken”.
Mechanical upgrades were done during the restoration to make it a better, more reliable driver. Original 1200cc engine was upgraded to a turn key 1600 cc engine (only 3,000 miles have been driven since restoration). Freeway Flyer gearing were installed making cruising down Southern California’s freeways a breeze. Original 6v system was converted to a more reliable and robust 12v systems as well as yellow fog lights and a gas gauge, added for drivability and convenience. Special reproduction (orange and white) striped awnings (included) can be added to the tops of the doors on each side, providing a shady seating area as well as a cool vintage look.
