This 1963 Rambler American 440 is a two-door convertible that is finished in red over red upholstery and is powered by a 196ci inline-six paired with a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a power-operated white soft top, body-color 15″ wheels, wheel covers, chrome bumpers and trim, a heater, and an AM radio.
Work carried out over the past year reportedly consisted of performing an oil change, overhauling the ignition system, and replacing the top fabric, tires, valve-stem seals, battery, starter, coolant hoses, and exhaust system.
Finished from the factory in Briarcliff Red (30) with Frost White (72) accents, the car reportedly was repainted under previous ownership in the current combination of red with a white beltline. The seller states that the power-operated white vinyl soft-top fabric was replaced in 2022. Other equipment includes chrome-finished bumpers, side moldings, dual side mirrors, and Rambler 440 badges at the rear. Body filler is said to be present in the rocker panels and the lower rear quarter panels, and cracking is noted on the lower rocker panels.
Body-color 15″ steel wheels wear Rambler-branded covers and were recently mounted with 225/75 Ironman RB-12 NWS whitewall tires. A spare is located in the trunk. The split reclining front bench seat with an optional passenger headrest and the rear bench are trimmed in red vinyl upholstery with darker red inserts. Additional equipment includes floor mats, a heater, a locking glovebox, vented front quarter windows, and a Rambler-branded AM radio. The front seats are said to have been reupholstered under prior ownership. A two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a horizontal speedometer labeled 0 to 12, with auxiliary gauges on either side. The five-digit odometer indicates approximately 63,500 miles.
The 196ci inline-six features a red valve cover as well as a cast-iron exhaust manifold. The engine was rated at 125 horsepower when new. An oil change was performed in the past year, and replacement components reportedly consist of the following:
Battery
Starter and bendix
Valve-stem seals
Radiator and coolant hoses
Coolant
Distributor cap
Condenser
Spark plugs
Ignition points
Exhaust system
A technical service manual and a spare wheel cover will accompany the vehicle.
